Roman Myths and Legends (Myths & legends)

by JohnSnelling (Author), Margaret Theakston (Illustrator)

Synopsis

This illustrated collection of Roman myths and legends is part of the Myths and legends series and includes some of the most well known stories. Starting with Aeneas, Trojan prince and founder of the Roman nation, two stories tell of his escape from Troy, his adventures on the way to Italy and his journey to the Underworld to discover his destiny. The tale of Aeneas' descendants, Romulus and Remus, is told next - how they came to be looked after by a wolf and how Romulus founded Rome. In the following story the author describes how the brave Horatius faced the entire Etruscan army single-handed in a desperate attempt to save Rome. Finally, the Gauls are introduced, who attacked and took all of Rome except the Capitol Hill, where they were thwarted by a vigilant flock of geese. The text is complemented by notes giving background information, a further reading list and a glossary.
