Ufos (Great Mysteries S.)

by Wilson (Author), Ben Wilson (Author), Ben (Author), Gordon C . Davies (Illustrator)

Synopsis

An illustrated introduction to the search for the truth behind the UFO debate. This title is part of the Great mysteries series which presents each topic through a combination of illustrations and reconstructions, with text assessing the evidence and inviting readers to draw their own conclusions. After a distinction between UFO encounters of the first, second and third kind, the author sets out to explore the mystery of UFOs. From the phantom chariot sightings of ancient times to the encounters experienced on manned space-flights, the author assesses the evidence for UFOs, attempting to answer questions such as what they are like, where they come from and how they get here. Various eye-witness accounts are reconstructed such as Captain Mantell's mysterious death while tracking a UFO, extra-terrestrial sightings in New Mexico, Edouard Meier's photographs of UFOs and reported conversations with other beings which US scientists have been unable to discredit. The evidence for and against UFOs is assessed, taking into account the proportion of hoaxes, optical illusions and cases of misidentification as well as raising the possibility of governmental cover-up. Advice is also given on what to do on meeting an extra-terrestrial being or UFO and there is a report sheet. The text is complemented by a glossary, a further reading list and an index.
