Synopsis

This is an autobiography of George Elrick, who played in many of the most famous British big bands of the 1930s and 1940s, alongside the likes of Bert Ambrose, Henry Hall and Louis Armstrong, had many hit songs as a vocalist, and starred in theatres up and down the country. He was even given his own radio programme, and was one of the first DJs to be heard over the radio, on the programme "George Elrick's Band Party". In 1942 he began working on the programme "Housewives' Choice" and was an instant success, quickly establishing himself and being voted top DJ seven times. In 1952 he moved into management, guiding the fortunes of Mantovani and his orchestra with whom he toured the US and the world.
