This is a new, revised edition of the 1975 Guide with updated prices. It should be essential reading for auctioneers, dealers, collectors and anyone interested in porcelain. The Price Guide Series of books on antiques has established itself over many years as providing useful information to collectors on prices, factors influencing prices and points to watch out for when buying. The first edition of The Price Guide to 19th and 20th Century British Porcelain was published in 1975. It provided a snapshot of its time - a picture that can now be seen to be out-of-focus. While this new edition omits several pieces which now seem too obscure or repetitive, there are numerous additional photographs in both black and white and colour. Of those that remain, their captions have been largely rewritten. In the last 15 years there has been a wealth of new research and both this and the recent emphasis on British ceramics for interior decoration has been reflected in the balance of this new edition. The format of dividing objects into collecting areas rather than factories has been retained with sections on bowls, jugs, plates, vases etc. An index is provided, however, for those interested in the output of a particular factory. Factors which influence prices such as condition and damage are discussed and a regularly published price revision list to accompany this book will ensure that the reader remains aware of changes in the market. Finally, the vexed question of fakes is also considered and a number of illustrated examples are included.
