Flags

by EveDevereux (Author)

Synopsis

All the flags of the independent nations of the world, their constituents and dependencies are illustrated in this book. Each flag has been faithfully matched to give an accurate rendition of the original flag. Flags should be of interest to those interested in the history and politics of the world's nations. Comprehensive and up-to-date, it includes flags of both old nations and the newly-emerging democracies such as Namibia, Georgia and others, and incorporates the recent dramatic political changes in Eastern Europe, including the recognition of the Czech Republic and Slovakia as independent states and of Bosnia and Herzegovina, having joined Croatia and Slovenia in seceding from Yugoslavia and, of course, the unitary states formed after the dissolution of the USSR. The book also relates the design of the nation's flag to its history and culture. Each entry has a useful fact panel which gives at-a-glance information on population, religion, capital city, area and languages spoken in the country. In many cases the arms of a country have been given too. For ease of use the countries and their flags are listed in strict alphabetical order.
