Peak District Treasure Hunts: Mystery Tours on Foot and by Car

Peak District Treasure Hunts: Mystery Tours on Foot and by Car

by IanAlmond (Author)

Synopsis

Ian Almond compiled this book following the success of his very own Peak District Treasure Hunts web site. There are 16 hunts altogether, which can take anything from 2 to 5 hours to solve, dependent on whether or not you look up the answers to the clues, provided at the end of the book! The Peak District National Park is already a popular destination for walkers of all ages, but if you like a challenge, have good powers of observation, or even fancy your chances at a spot of lateral thinking, you'll not be disappointed. Each hunt has a map reference, a starting point (eg a local pub) an estimated walking distance and time, plus a brief description of likely terrain. Set in the most scenic hills and quaint villages of the Peak District, these walks offer an intriguing day out. There are mystery tours centred around, for example, Hathersage and Eyam in the heart of the Peak District; or from Wildboarclough in the western part of the National Park to Bradfield near Sheffield in the north east. Within each hunt you'll find interesting and varied types of clues to solve - from word searches and grids to code words and calculations. Clues are, in the main, set around fixed items such as plaques, road names, monuments and even headstones. Once you have successfully solved each set of clues you're one more step along the way to reaching your final destination and that wonderful sense of satisfaction and achievement.
