The Quest: The First Toby and Sox Adventure (Toby & Sox Adventure)

The Quest: The First Toby and Sox Adventure (Toby & Sox Adventure)

by PaulaBroderick (Author)

Synopsis

When eight-year-old Toby finds a dragon called Sox under his bed, it's not long before he's persuaded to enter another world on a quest to find Sox's missing mother. Their journey takes them deep into a fantasy world and as the quest continues, they meet some wonderful characters, nippies, unicorns, rainbow mice, a rather plump Christmas tree fairy, and the last living dodo. Some of these join them on their mission, and Toby soon learns that there is more than one kind of dragon, and not all of them are friendly. Author Paula Broderick is inspired by children's authors, most noticeably J.M. Barrie, Hugh Lofting and C.S. Lewis. She has used her experience and understanding of animals, gained partly from owning a game conservation reserve in Africa, combined with her knowledge of African folklore stories and her own stories to create a charming story that will appeal to children from 7 years old. The book is beautifully illustrated by Dave Leonard.

Media Reviews
Paula Broderick's book about Toby and Sox is exactly the kind of book I would encourage my children to read. Paula has that rare quality of creating an exciting, easy to read story with a strong message about self-belief, family and friendship. The characterisation is exceptional, in fact so good that I would not be surprised to see an animation series based on Toby, Sox and friends being produced in the future. I am really looking forward to reading the remaining two books in the trilogy. -- Denise Fitzpatrick
