by RobertO.Scott (Author)
A collection of poetry and short stories, in three parts, that celebrates the author's life in the Scottish Highlands and how observantly he worked with nature's varied wildlife there. Part One is a collection of poems about his early years which reveal his wartime years in Glasgow. His post-war years of climbing on his deeply loved Scottish hills are also vividly described. Part Two tells of the many years he lived in Assynt in the remote North West Scottish Highlands, where his life as a gamekeeper bought him into close touch with nature in this dramatically harsh, but fantastically beautiful landscape. Encounters with wildlife, including otters, killer whales and golden eagles, are vividly described. Long dead Assynt people including his wife and crofter and gamekeeper friends, are lovingly kept alive in some moving poems. Part Three describes his quietly contented retirement years in Pitlochry, a pleasant Perthshire town where he grew to love the calmer, tree-lush beauty of the surrounding hilly landscape.
