Media Reviews
What a terrific concept! A group of Welsh International players, all removed from the team after only one appearance due to errors they made on the pitch, have become zombies. Haunted by their mistakes, they are forced to remain hidden in the woods until they win an international match. Meanwhile, Arwel, an average rugby player, finds himself surrounded by people obsessed with the game. When he meets the zombies, he must save both himself and them. What I particularly liked about the novel is its realism (if you ignore the zombies!). Arwels problems belong in the real world: a nagging sister, bullies at school, and a desire to be recognised for something. While the mood of the book is light in places (the zombies physio needs tape to hold their fingers on during the game), the front cover belies the novels tone; the zombies are monsters and act accordingly. They have a dangerous quality about them, making this novel more horror than comedy. The novel ends before the curse is lifted. Thered better be a sequel!
