Media Reviews
The verses introduce young children to different cultures as well as helping those from other countries feel included. The book cleverly presents the translated rhyme opposite the verse in its original language. || A funny, quirky and touching collection of nursey rhymes from 22 different countries... Young children will love Moriuchi's appealing illustrations and the fun opportunities to play with sound and language that this collection offers. || Stunningly illustrated by Mique Moriuchi, Danielle Wright's collection contains nursery rhymes from a wealth of countries, accessibly translated. There are action rhymes, lullabies and observations of children's everyday life. A version in the original language and, where appropriate, in original script, are placed alongside each poem giving this fascinating and colourful book long lasting appeal. || Why do I adore this collection of poetry so much? Is it the unique, textured illustrations or the funny and touching poems collected from around the world? Although this fantastic combination makes for a stunning book, my favourite thing is that every poem, whether from Iran, Iceland, Samoa, Switzerland, Japan or Jamaica, is presented in its native tonguue as well as in English. This makes it an inbvaluable tool in enabling all children no matter what their first language is, to access and enjoy great poetry. || The rhymes are well chosen and range from funny and bouncy to quiet and thoughtful. The brightly colored collage illustrations complement them well, although sometimes the backgrounds make the text difficult to read. Michael Rosen' s introduction provides interesting information for adults sharing nursery rhymes with children. Overall, this fun volume will add some new verses to traditional nursery-rhyme fare || A touching and funny collection of verses from 22 countries, ranging from Iran and Russia to Samoa and Brazil, with each brought to life by the wonderful artwork of Mique Moriuchi. Original languages and phonetic versions are included, opening up lots of fun opportunities for playing with the sound and language.
