by Bob Stonell (Author)
This is a charming, upbeat tale following the lives, loves and losses of the characters in a retirement home - including the irrepressible Major. This is a heart-warming tale of how retirement homes for the elderly could (and should) be. Avril Lodge, situated in the Home Counties is the ideal retirement home. Its discerning owner hand-picks her residents and staff - and life is rosy for those with the wherewithal to live there. There are inevitable times of sadness and the occasional tiff, but life is comfortably bearable. Although he does not realise it, Major Llenots-Jones is the king-pin of the whole concern. Gently curmudgeonly and reactionary though he is, the Major comforts the sad and instigates the seemingly impossible. When a kind act enables the Major to purchase a car, the inhabitants' lives are revolutionised. Some of them even find romance for the first time.
