Animal Knits for Kids

Animal Knits for Kids

by Amanda Berry (Author)

Synopsis

Animal Knits for Kids takes us on a journey around the zoo. Starting with a safari outfit to get baby ready for exploring, each chapter travels around the different zoo zones, from jungle animals to the reptile house to tropical seas in the aquarium, and on to the polar zone. Each chapter chooses a few animals from each zone to inspire baby clothing and other accessories. The bright colors of the knits will appeal to a baby, but also give the book standout appeal on the bookshelf amongst other baby knit titles, which tend to feature neutral or pastel tones. The patterns included are accessible to knitters of all abilities. The book has several cute knits that could be completed in aday or even an afternoon, as well as bigger projects for the more adventurous knitter. A range of skills and techniques are explored in each project, and the introduction gives guidance on these techniques to help the knitter along the way. Techniques include color work-from the knitted stripe through to intarsia-fairisle, and slip stitch color patterns. Finishing techniques include seaming and grafting live stitches. Projects include those knitted flat and worked in the round, and the introduction will give some guidance on getting started with knitting in the round, as well as the different needles for each technique. A basic tool kit, some notes on safety when knitting for young children, as well as abbreviations, conversion charts, and other handy hints are all included.

Author Bio
AMANDA BERRY lives in Berkshire, England, with her husband and a menagerie of knitted animals. She was taught the basics of knitting by her mother at a young age (one of her first successful projects was a sweater for her teddy bear), but it was more than 20 years before she rediscovered her love of the craft. With a renewed passion for knitting and design, Amanda left a career in accountancy to enrol on a degree course at London College of Fashion, and began designing knitting patterns as Fluff and Fuzz in 2010. From small beginnings, Fluff and Fuzz grew to a selection of more than 50 toy knitting patterns which are available online from knitting and craft websites, including Ravelry, Folksy, and Etsy. Amanda's popular toy and accessory patterns have since been featured in many magazines including Craftseller and Let's Get Crafting where she is a regular designer. Her designs have also appeared on the cover of Let's Knit. As a predominantly self-taught knitter, Amanda understands that new knitters may find some techniques scary, and she shares tips, techniques, and photo tutorials through her Fluff and Fuzz knitting blog to help newbie knitters along the way. Because she is a big kid at heart, when Amanda isn't knitting she loves watching cartoons and walking by the River Thames to feed the ducks. She loves to knit because each project is an opportunity to learn a new skill, create something unique, and you can always adapt patterns easily to suit your taste. Her favorite thing to do while knitting is drink lots of tea and watch old movies.
