Decorate Your Home with Colour

by Libby Norman (Author)

Synopsis

Colour brings instant character to any home, defining its style more effectively than any other decorative element. Colour can inject glamour, drama or romance, or can be laid-back, cool and subtle. It can make a home feel light and spacious or cosy and warm. Decorate Your Home with Colour is full of practical information and inspirational advice throughout. The book starts with a chapter on understanding colour which covers how colour works, a colour wheel, the basics of tonal effects and how colours can make rooms look larger or smaller, add light or set a mood. The basics of introducing colour are also dealt with - through walls, soft furnishings, flooring and accents and accessories. The chapters that follow all deal with a specific colour and show how each of them can be used successfully in a contemporary decorating scheme. In addition each chapter features practical projects relevant to that particular colour, such as painting a floor, creating a feature wall, paint effects and adding stamps and stencils. With useful hints and tips throughout and plenty of practical information as well as inspirational photographs, this is an essential guide for anyone wanting to introduce colour and life into their home.

An experienced homes journalist, Libby Norman was formerly editor of the UK edition of House Beautiful. Now a freelance writer, she contributes to a range of European publications, covering decorating and design, as well as lifestyle features. A self-confessed 'serial decorator', she has painted, distressed and stamped her identity on several homes over the years and is currently renovating a tumbledown thatched cottage near London - which she describes as her biggest challenge to date.
