by SarahDyer (Author)

Synopsis

Mrs Muffly lives by herself in a house on top of a hill. She has always been a bit strange, but lately she has been acting very, very strangely indeed. Could this be because she is keeping a HUGE monster in her house? This is a sparkling new book from the Smarties-Award-winning Sarah Dyer.

Media Reviews
5 stars - Sarah Dyer's humorous and fantastical text is perfect for reading aloud together or for newly independent readers. www.bettybookmark.co.uk The denouement at the end (with a nice twist!) will raise a giggle. The collage and crayon illustrations are just right for childish fun. Irish Examiner An amusing story about jumping to conclusions and one that provides a good starting point for exploring big numbers and baking. Nursery World Dyer's collage and pencil illustrations are executed with great flair and warmth. Her characters in particular are always drawn with great empathy. Books for Keeps Aimed at independent readers this fantastic account of a very unusual old lady who goes shopping on a quad motor bike for huge quantities of dry goods will also please parents who want to read aloud with their children. The illustrations combine the striking colours of glazed pottery for the monster with the delicate patterns of household textiles used in this book to depict tree foliage! Children will find much to delighrt them in the pictures, and be intrigued enough to try count the large numbers of jars of jam, sacks of flour and packs of butter. Heartily recommended. School Librarian Unusual collage and crayon illustrations engage young readers in the gentle story, reminding us how childhood imaginations can invent solutions far from reality - but such fun!
