Carousel Fascinatingly fresh conformation of familiar themes in language which is straightforward and compelling. The clear and highly readable text is entirely embedded in Virginia Lee's richly detailed and eventful visual realm. Books for Keeps The gorgeous Arabian Nights-style pictures glow mysteriously as we follow the prince on his desperate mission to find and win his princess. There are lots of potential talking points in the pictures which could inspire some exciting art work. Author Bio
Antonia Barber's The Ghosts was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and filmed as The Amazing Mr Blunden. The Mousehole Cat was a finalist for the Smarties Prize, winner of the 1990 British Book Award and Commended for the 1991 Kate Greenaway Medal; it was later made into an animated film. In 1993 Tales from Grimm was selected for Child Education Best Collections of the Year. Virginia Lee is the daughter of the artist and film conceptual designer Alan Lee. She studied Art and Design at Exeter College and Illustration at Kingston University. She worked as a sculptor on the Minas Tirith set of Peter Jackson's film trilogy The Lord of the Rings in New Zealand and designed merchandise for the films. She lives in Brighton, East Sussex. Her books for Frances Lincoln are Antonia Barber's retelling of The Frog Bride and Sally Pomme Clayton's Persephone.
