Synopsis

For over 2,000 years origami, the intricate skill of paper folding, has been a source of interest, enjoyment and intellectual stimulation for both adults and children, and this fascinating art form continues to be one of the most popular pastimes. This delightful book begins with an inspirational gallery showing some of the most famous pieces devised by origamists. The instructional section opens by exploring the wide variety of materials available to make your origami truly original. Then all the basic techniques you need to get started and take you to an advanced level are demonstrated with clear photographic steps and comprehensive instructions. The project section follows, and begins with quite basic items before progressing to models that require a great deal of concentration: so this practical book encourages the reader to gain confidence in this ancient art form by building skills gradually over a step-by-step teaching course. Contained in the project section, favourite classic subjects include the dove, the crane, the rabbit, the elephant, the swan, the butterfly, the shell, the kimono, the lily, the peacock, and the tulip, as well as people, the box, the cup and the crown. With colourful, inspirational photography of each model and a whole host of origami pieces to suit every level of ability, this is an essential book for anyone who is keen to perfect the art of paper folding.
