Author Bio
Brian Heard started his working life as an analyst in Charringtons brewery in 1963 but he found the work very repetitive and was soon looking elsewhere for more interesting employment. He found this as a general forensic chemist in the Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard, which he joined in 1964. Several years later he transferred to the Firearms and Ballistics section where he rose to the level of Deputy Head of the laboratory. In 1977 he left the New Scotland Yard laboratory for what remained of the Colonies and joined the Royal Hong Kong Police. In 2002 he retired as Director of the Bureau. In 1996 he published A Handbook of Firearms and Ballistics - Examining and Interpreting Forensic Evidence - widely recognised as the standard reference work on the subject. Amongst his many personal interests he is an accomplished rock climber.
