Media Reviews
Inside this book are 200 questions about patchwork, and more importantly there are also the same number of answers! Useful to just about every patchworker from beginners through to advanced as surely most people aren't going to know everything in here - This is a title in Search Press' 200 Series where that number of questions, methods or whatever is explained. If you are a beginner then starting at the beginning is a good idea as you can learn just exactly what a quilt is, as well as what patchwork is and what is has to offer to today's stitchers. The next few chapters are divided into patterns for blocks, grouping them under how many patches each contains (eg four, nine, sixteen etc). You can also learn the basics in here, including what you need to get started, what features your sewing machine ought to have, setting up a work space, your first project etc. Other chapters feature advice on designing, buying fabric, color choices, constructing a block and finishing to name a few. There is a chapter at the end with templates for some of the more complex blocks that are difficult to work out through scaling alone. For each block pattern earlier in the book features a colored picture of the block and how to work out the size of the pieces as well as an explanation in some cases of the block's history. If you read this book from cover to cover (or at least pick out some of the relevant answers) you ought to have no trouble in completing your first quilt. One for every quilter's keeper shelf.-Myshelf.com A book packed with information on patchwork from the simple 4 patch block to blocks with many intricate parts, in a question and answer format. Each of the 84 blocks is illustrated with a coloured diagram. The cutting instructions are given in metric measurements and in several sizes, with 'how to' instructions. The measurements/instructions are sometimes not on the same page as the diagrams. The second half has sound advice on many topics from fabrics, machines, threads etc. to quilt assembly. Templates to enlarge and photocopy are included.-Patchwork & Quilting Do you have a patchwork problem which you cannot solve, are you curious to know more about a specific technique, or do you want to know how to achieve a range of decorative effects? The answers to these questions and up to 200 others are fully covered in this informative guide. The questions are designed for beginners and experienced quilters and the answers are supplied by a leading expert on all aspects of patchwork. Sounds like a 'life saver' to me.-Fabrications Patchwork, 200 Questions Answered by Jake Finch, ... is a handy little companion, particularly useful to the novice patchworker, as it answers all those questions you need to know the answer to but don't know who to ask.
