by RolandKuck (Author)

Synopsis

Neither beginners nor advanced students will want to be without this book on airbrush art. It is an indispensable source of information and advice on the amazing works of art you can produce with the aid of a spray gun. Beginning with the basic techniques coupled with specialist tips, all of the various ways of using an airbrush are demonstrated for anyone who would like to learn, perfect and eventually become professional at the spray technique. With the help of numerous, tried-and-tested, step-by-step instructions, the six carefully designed projects provide an easy introduction to the basic knowledge required and to the subsequent development of the skills needed for complex artistic work. The advantages of the freehand technique are as comprehensively discussed as the solutions to problems and difficulties that can occur when working with masks. As well as the practical tasks, readers can learn everything there is to know about the inner workings and construction of an airbrush gun, and are introduced to the various models of gun available commercially and detailed information on accessories and materials.

Media Reviews

Apr 10

The airbrush has been rather elbowed out by computer graphic techniques lately, but this is a timely reminder that the medium has rather more painterly qualities than pure technology can provide. This new book packs a lot into its 144 pages and, necessarily therefore, skates over a certain amount. Although it's intended to appeal to beginners as well as the more experienced artist, I can't help feeling that a complete tyro would do well to seek out something a little more basic to begin with. Although types of gun and basic techniques are covered, there's no real disguising that this quickly develops into something of a masterclass, with a series of demonstrations that make heavy demands on your technical ability. None of this is to say that this isn't a hugely worthwhile book, and it's also true that the airbrush is a difficult tool to learn and handle, albeit one which repays study and diligence. The accompanying DVD features all the six demonstrations and goes a long way to helping you follow what's going on.
