by SteveHothersall (Author)

Synopsis

This book is part of the "Transforming Social Work Practice" series written specifically to support students on social work degree courses and maps out the unique and specific content of social work with children, young people and their families in Scotland. For many years, Scotland has led the way in innovative practice and service delivery for this client group and the past few years have seen a number of policy initiatives which aim to provide a framework for ethically sound practice. Drawing on this experience, the author brings together a range of relevant legislation, policy, research and practice evidence. The changes facing social work in Scotland following the publication of the Report of the 21st Century Review, Changing Lives, are discussed and there are specific chapters on key areas including: child protection; looked after children; The Children's Hearing System; support services and collaboration. Each chapter links to the Scottish Standards in Social Work Education (SiSWE) making it a valuable aid to both students and practitioners. By offering a coherent picture of a complex landscape, the book will also be of interest to teachers, nurses, doctors, police and a range of other professionals involved in work with children, young people and their families.
