Media Reviews
Trish Deseine offers a fresh take on food for friends. A combination of her native Irish and adopted French, her recipes are both down to earth and tinged with that extra special je ne sais quoi only the French can provide. Divided into meal types - picnics, children's parties, informal and formal dinners - it is an eclectic selection of savoury and sweet dishes. Accompanied by the lavish yet natural photographs of Marie-Pierre Morel dishes range from the exotic monkfish korma and tequila chicken to the more traditional roast lamb and beef braised in Guinness. Each section is preceded by commonsense tips on what to do and avoid depending on the dinner setting - don't make a new dish for an important formal dinner or ask guests to a picnic to bring a bottle of wine else you'll end up with a hangover from all the different grapes! - thus ensuring a successful feast. Trish's home dishes ensure solid comfort food whilst her newly acquired French tastes ensure a lighter more sophisticated touch. This is a welcome change to a familiar subject presenting a good range of tasty, easy-to-make dishes to share with your friends and family. - Lucy Watson
