The Sin Eater (VMC)

The Sin Eater (VMC)

by Alice Thomas Ellis (Author)

Synopsis

A troubled family gather at the ancestral home on the Welsh coast, awkwardly awaiting the death of the family patriarch. Polite conversation gives way to sly remarks and bickering in this tense reunion, and the household's respectable surface is scratched away to expose secret warfare, malicious games and viciously funny class-consciousness. In Alice Thomas Ellis's first novel, the caustic wit, brisk pace, and profound insight she is famous for are displayed to full effect.

Media Reviews
'There is wit, sharp perception and ... a cutting edge of thought and words that had me grinning maliciously and guiltily' D. Tel. *'A brilliant first novel ... extravagantly good ... pays off scores that we all grudgingly feel need settling and sticks in her pins with all the delicacy of a sadistic acupuncturist' Scotsman *'Funny, upper-class, and decidedly original ... One of the most accurate portraits of contemporary British life that I have yet read' Evening Standard
