The Wicca Handbook: A Complete Guide to Witchcraft and Magic

The Wicca Handbook: A Complete Guide to Witchcraft and Magic

by SheenaMorgan (Author)

Synopsis

The Wicca Handbook is unique in that it sets out to equip the reader with everything they will need to gain a practical, working knowledge of the basics of witchcraft. This is no reductive collection of spells and potions (although the book does contain spells); the book introduces the reader to the Craft of the Wise and examines what it means to live by magic in the modern world. Readers will learn the basics of the Wiccan faith, discovering that Wicca is based on the worship of the 'Divine in Nature', a religion which celebrates the changing seasons of the year. Interviews with real witches provide unique insights into the meaning and values of Wicca and the religion's deities, on a practical level. Each chapter contains a blank 'diary' section in which readers can record notes, incidents, dreams and symbols of meaning to them - so, as the year unfolds, the Handbook becomes a useful record of the reader's magical experiences. The central section of the Handbook deals with issues surrounding self-initiation. Concepts such as 'intent' and 'dealing with energy' are explored. The section ends with an empowering self-initiation ritual. Some readers may wish to pursue Wicca further and the Handbook goes on to provide practical advice on how to find out more through study groups and established organisations. This section includes details on the reality of working with other witches, and how Covens actually function. Finally, the book offers an invaluable 'Who's who' of modern Wicca, including information on early founders as well as current 'elders' such as Vivianne Crowley and Olivia Durdon Richardson.

Author Bio
Sheena Morgan is a writer, researcher and a Priestess of Wicca. Her long-standing interest in myth, folk traditions and magic stems from a childhood spent in Africa, where magic was commonplace. Ten years spent exploring the world, from Australia to America, fuelled her interest in various magical traditions, while experiences in Greece, Bali and Egypt reawakened her devotion to witchcraft. She currently lives in a cottage on the south coast and spends all of her free time out in the woods that surround her home. She also lectures and runs workshops in the traditional and magical uses of British native wild plants. Her first book was The Real Halloween.
