Synopsis

When Catrin finds a secret box in Bossman's scrapyard, she suspects someone must have hidden it deliberately. When Sunita's grandmother in Nairobi receives a mysterious letter from a girl in Wales, Sunita has to make a confession. Shaped partly like a man, partly like an elephant, what is the mysterious figurine which brings the two girls together? A gentle tale of contrasting cultures which draws upon Mary's experiences both in Kenya and in Wales. The author is well-known for her work with children and has featured in several educational videos. She devised the Channel 4 TV series on storytelling, By Word of Mouth , (1990) and her radio programme on storytelling for BBC Wales Education was broadcast in 1999. The storyteller's ability to capture and captivate her audience comes to the fore in this novel.
