Angel

Angel

by Cliff Mc Nish (Author)

Synopsis

It's been many years since fourteen-year-old Freya's life was ruled by an obsession with angels - an obsession which destroyed her family. She has a burgeoning social life at school, and feels adjusted in the world. But then the angels return, and Freya discovers that she herself is a guardian angel. What makes matters worse is the arrival of the strange new girl, Stephanie, who craves for herself the angelic power that Freya resists. Learning to harness this difficult new friendship and her otherworldly abilities are complicated tasks, fraught with difficult decisions to make and dangerous situations to negotiate. Every time Freya helps one of her wards, she puts her own life at risk. And then there are her fellow angels - understanding what they want from her is perhaps the hardest task of all.

Media Reviews
'This unusual fantasy about a girl who, obsessed with angels, actually finds she is one, is made plausible by a very strong depiction of the underpining pattern of teenage anxieties and everyday angst.' -- Lesley Agnew THE BOOKSELLER 'stands out for its original subject and plot... Each book takes McNish into new territory, and this one is both assured and thought-provoking.' -- Nikki Gamble THE BOOKSELLER 'What a book. I simply couldn't put it down... a highly charged and intensely romantic look at personal spirituality... the writing is effortless and as it slips between character perspectives, Angel never loses an air of authenticity. And at moments it reaches the sublime, I loved it.' -- Jill Murphy THE BOOKBAG 'McNish vividly portrays two worlds in the light of eachother, creating a thin space between two worlds that makes for a moving and thought provoking tale.' -- Huw Thomas BOOKS FOR KEEPS 'If you love stories about friendship, this one's a must!' BLISS 'McNish's outstanding prose is married to a suspenseful plot and a quiet humour that will appeal to 13+. Hallelujah!' -- Amanda Craig THE TIMES 'Haunting and thought provoking.' CY MAG 'Tense, quirky and highly individual, this story has plenty going for it.' -- Nicholas Tucker TES 'A neat combination of teenage angst and behavioural ethics... engaging' THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
