Sudan (The Bradt Travel Guide)

by PaulClammer (Author)

Synopsis

Sudan is an emerging destination for adventurous travellers, and this new Bradt guide illustrates why it is such a compelling country to visit in its own right. Africa's largest nation, its varied land features include the Nubian desert, Nile plains and several mountain ranges, whilst the fascinating city of Khartoum is a cultural melting-pot that reflects its Egyptian, Islamic and black African heritage. Sudan also has more pyramids than Egypt! This first dedicated guide to Sudan will satisfy the needs of aid workers, eco-travellers, and those with interests as diverse in topics as archaeology, travel photography, hiking and diving.

Media Reviews
It may seem a strange time to be publishing the first guide devoted entirely to Sudan, but hardy travellers have long been discovering the wonders of Africa's largest country so this book is very welcome all the same. Despite the crisis in the currently inaccessible region of Darfur in the west of the country, the author optimistically includes it as well as creating a yearning to see the archaeological treasures of the ancient kingdom of Kush, explore the lmatong mountains, meet the bejewelled women of Kassala market and taste bush - a poor man's alternative to a bean stew.
