The Shipbuilders

The Shipbuilders

by Martin Bellamy (Author)

Synopsis

One of the defining images of the Clyde and Glasgow are the great ships and yards which have dominated them through much of their history. In them was defined not simply a way of life, but a people and a nation. This is the first comprehensive anthology - of fiction, non fiction, poetry and prose - covering the life and times of the yards and the men who lived in them. Lavishly illustrated, it is both a history and a celebration of what for many is the golden age of Glasgow and the Clyde. This book is the subject of major exhibitions on the life of the shipbuilding yards being held in Irvinc and Saltcoats from October 2001.

Media Reviews
'... Shipbuilding and the Clyde is always of interest and there are several books already on the subject... This is a different kind of book and is probably long overdue... It covers all aspects of the yards, it lest the people who worked in them speak for themselves... an excellent anthology by someone who knows the subject and seems to have read almost everything relating to it and who has produced a labour of love that is also fascinating to read.' - Hamish Whyte
