Media Reviews
'The Boy Who Grew Flowers, illustrated by Steve Adams, is that rare thing, a substantial story delivered through a full-colour picture book. Rink keeps himself to himself, aware that his unorthodox home life and flower-growing set him apart from his peers. But when Angelina arrives, she expects her peers to accept her differences and disability. The linguistic ability of the story-telling combines with lush illustrations in a delightful, unusual book.' - The Bookseller
Author Bio
Jennifer Wojtowicz is an artist who also happens to write. She has had many odd jobs - from working on a cranberry bog to making and selling hats. She currently teaches artists who also happen to have disabilities. All of her life experiences have stimulated her as an artist, teacher and writer. She was inspired to write this story because of her brother, who has autism. She says, I have observed that when people are kind and accepting toward each other, it alleviates a lot of needless suffering. Jen lives in upstate New York with her son Marcel and their seven-year-old shih tzu, Michie. The Boy Who Grew Flowers is her first book. Steve Adams currently lives in Montreal where he shares his passion of illustration and graphic design as a college teacher. Steve is an award-winning illustrator who has studied graphic design in Canada and Europe. This is his first project with Barefoot Books.
