Book Overview: A sequel to Barefoot in the Kitchen - teaching for women moving on from being 'at home with small children' USP: A follow-up to the successful Barefoot in the Kitchen, exploring what comes after the 'at home with babies' years. Author's expectations for the book: The proposed book is intended as a 'sequel' to Barefoot in the Kitchen (BRF, 2004). Whereas Barefoot examined how to find God's presence and purpose in the ordinary, 'enclosed' or restricted place, A Spacious Place encourages women to understand and use the enclosed space as a preparation ground for the moment when we are called to walk in 'broader' spaces. In our 'make-it-happen' secular culture this book also examines the tension between understanding our destiny as shaped by our own efforts and our destiny understood as the good things God has prepared for us ahead of time, engaging with the current debates concerning women in the work force with a radical Kingdom perspective. What prompted this proposal? NS/author discussion What is the competition? Other authors? Other titles? Nothing directly comparable - people will buy because they liked Barefoot in the Kitchen. 'Enabling women' books mostly come from USA eg Captivating - Unveiling the mystery of a woman's soul by John and Stasi Eldridge (Thomas Nelson, 2006), but tend to be uneasy about anything that could be construed as a 'feminist' approach (that's US culture wars for you...); Joyce Meyer's books offer a similar 'practical Bible teaching' approach to Alie. Other publishers? Authentic, Monarch, US publishers... Special edition potential: - Special timing? no
