Walking with Jesus Through Lent and Easter: A 'Visual Pilgrimage' for Families and Churches

by Murray Mc Bride (Author)

Synopsis

This title provides flexible resource for all ages, from seven to adult. It is ideal for church groups, schools, individuals and families. It uses photocopiable daily footsteps concept to stimulate imagination and promote a reflective response to the story of Easter. Each day includes Bible passage with key verse(s) in full; a short exposition of the passage; stimulants for prayer and reflection; a reflective picture to colour and a prayer. This title also includes hints and tips for using the material with children, families, and individual adults, a scene setting section about Lent and more. It is suitable for clergy; children's work leaders; parents; lay ministers responsible for all-age worship and all those seeking to share the story of Easter with children. Walking with Jesus through Lent and Easter follows on from Walking with Jesus through Advent and Christmas by picking up the story of Jesus' adult ministry. It is inspired by the storytelling power of stained-glass, the seven weekly themes are designed to enable a chunk of time to be spent on different aspects of Jesus' ministry (such as his miracles or parables). Each week contains five days worth of material. In the final week the daily reflections go all the way through to Easter Day.

Media Reviews
From The Good Bookstall -February 2010 The Introduction has careful instructions on how to use this book, then comes the First Part called 'Setting the Scene for the journey' which does precisely that by explaining what this season is all about, and usefully including Mothering Sunday as an accepted part of the season. The author talks about the Spiritual Exercises of prayer, Bible reading, fasting and showing love to others and gives a theological overview of Lent and Easter. Part Two has what the author calls 'mini-maps' for adults and another for children, to follow through the days and weeks that are set out in detail in Part Three where after a Bible reading and commentary Murray McBride, now an army chaplain, relates his experiences to the disciples journey with Jesus. Appendix One is a Glossary, Appendix Two a diagram showing the Christian year. Written for families and church-based children's groups, the hope is that while working through this book together all ages will grow in knowledge and faith. Reviewed by Mary Bartholomew
