Urban God: Bible Readings and Comment on Living in the City

Urban God: Bible Readings and Comment on Living in the City

by JohnProctor (Author)

Synopsis

These forty Bible readings focus on teaching and stories about cities, and finding echoes between cities then and now. Readings are drawn from Genesis to Revelation (the Tower of Babel to the heavenly city of Jerusalem), and survey the chosen passages in their historical and biblical context, before applying them to life today. Each reading concludes with a prayer or point for reflection. The book explores all aspects of life in a complex, urban society: from trade and culture, to "crime and grime", and shows how much the Bible talks about city living and the lessons we can learn for city life today. Among the issues covered are: community, celebration, corruption, regeneration, evangelism, and citizenship.
