Silent Engine (Oberon Modern Plays)

by JulianGarner (Author)

Synopsis

The skeleton of a wrecked house. A hundred years ago the village fell into the sea. On a rocky ledge above the beach Bill and Anna recriminate, negociate and strike bargains with God. Looming over them: the shadows of the village's lost fishermen - and of their own dead daughter. And below, the waves waiting to claim them. When the sand's always shifting beneath your feet, where do you stand? How can you be a good mother, father, lover, human being when the Joker's playing God? Julian Garner's The Awakening won the Ibsen Award and has been performed all over Europe. His play The Bear Table was performed at the National Theatre International Connections season. Production by Pentabus Theatre Company tours from July 2002 including the Arcola Theatre, Hackney, the Edinburgh Festival (Gilded Balloon) and a national tour in September.
