My Name'5 Doddie: The Autobiography

by Doddie Weir (Author), Doddie Weir (Author)

Synopsis

The extraordinary, life-affirming autobiography of rugby legend DODDIE WEIR Doddie Weir is the kind of man you want on your side when there's a top-flight rugby match to be won - and when there's a round to be bought and stories of good times to be told. In a career that straddled rugby union's transition to the professional era, Doddie shared changing rooms, tour buses and the field of play with some of the greatest stars international rugby has ever seen. From Jonah Lomu to Lawrence Dallaglio, Brian O'Driscoll to a young Jonny Wilkinson, Scott Quinnell to Francois Pienaar, Martin Johnson to Joost van der Westhuizen, Doddie's tales of life on and off the pitch are unique - insightful, funny and, at times, heart-breaking. But there has never been anyone quite like Doddie. A giant of the game and a rugby icon, his story is unique, inspirational and charged with a passion for living life to the full. And now, in an autobiography as truthful and immensely entertaining as its author, Doddie tells of a career - and its aftermath - which has seen him emerge as one of the most widely admired men of his generation. As a player, Doddie had an irresistible talent that took him to the heart of every team he graced - from Stewart's Melville to Melrose, Newcastle Falcons to Borders, from Scotland to the British & Irish Lions - winning 61 caps over a decade of appearances for his national side. Driven by his sportsmanship, infectious sense of humour and boundless energy, Doddie set stadiums alight when on the charge like a mad giraffe . Then in November 2017, in a moment of incredible poignancy, 67,000 fans at Murrayfield stood in unison for their hero as Doddie came out onto the pitch flanked by his three teenage sons. For now, at the age of 48, Doddie faces an entirely different adversary: Motor Neurone Disease. It's a challenge he has tackled with undaunted positivity. In his tireless campaigning to raise funds for MND research, Doddie has transcended the world of sport to reach a whole new audience. And, since his diagnosis went public, the outpouring of emotion from all over the world has been unprecedented. MY NAME'5 DODDIE is a humbling, courageous and very funny celebration of a remarkable life being lived to the max. An absolute must-read - rugby fan or not.
