The Bedside Guardian 2013

The Bedside Guardian 2013

by Martin Wainwright (Editor)

Synopsis

2013 has been an extraordinary year. And the Guardian was at the very heart of it. From the death of Margaret Thatcher to the Oscar Pistorius murder case, from Andy Murray winning Wimbledon to the unfolding crisis in Syria, the Guardian's best journalists have covered every moment, every angle and every point of view. Often they have shaped the news agenda: the scandal of Britain's undercover policing and the revelations made by Edward Snowden concerning the NSA are both stories that were broken this year in the Guardian and made international headlines. But for every hard-hitting investigation - and the ones included in this book cover such subjects as brutal police squads in Iraq and terrorist cover-ups in Northern Ireland - there are also examples of the Guardian's quirky wit and humour, with the paper's top writers being dispatched to answer such weighty questions as what to do with your Ugg boots now that they are no longer fashionable, or how one should respond when Snoop Dogg offers you a spliff. Representing the Guardian in its eclectic and idiosyncratic glory, this is a beautifully produced collection for all fans of intelligent, world-class journalism.
