Author Bio
Huw Ellis-Williams was brought up in Bangor and studied in Oxford and Exeter. A pianist, organist and part-time composer, he teaches at a comprehensive school in north Wales where he is head of sixth form. Huw has a particular interest in instrumental music of the early 20th century, and in music for theatre and film. He is an examiner for OCR and is co-author of the Rhinegold Education OCR AS and A2 Music Study Guides. Veronica Jamset taught music to young people aged between four and 18 years, in primary and secondary schools, selective and non-selective, in both the state and private sectors in the West Midlands, before taking up her first post in Higher Education as a teacher trainer. She worked in two colleges in Birmingham and then moved to St Mary's College at Strawberry Hill in Twickenham, where she became principal lecturer in music and director of in-service and continuing education. Veronica also has considerable experience in adult education. She has been an examiner at various levels since 1990 and, until 2000, was chief examiner for OCR's AS and A-level music syllabuses. She was a member of the team that drafted OCR's current AS/A2 music specification. Susan Wynne Roberts holds a Masters Degree in Composing, Analysis and Criticism from the University of Surrey. She has taught music in a wide range of schools, and for some 16 years has been a senior examiner and moderator for A-level composing, developing well-received materials and schemes of work for A-level teachers. She was part of the team writing the current specification for OCR. Sue Roberts is an enthusiastic advocate of 20th-century and contemporary music, her interest in the way composers learn to compose taking her as far afield as Boston and Athens. Jane Werry read Music at Cambridge University, and has been Director of Music at Hayes School in Bromley since 1999. At Hayes she shares responsibility for professional development in teaching and learning. In 2013 her department was a finalist in the Best School Music Department category of the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence. Jane is an A level composition moderator for OCR, a member of TeachTalk:Music, and is also a frequent contributor to Music Teacher magazine. She is one of the authors of Teaching Music: Practical Strategies for KS3 (Rhinegold Education, 2013). Alongside her education activities, Jane has always maintained a performing schedule, regularly singing around South East England in light opera, oratorio and pop. She is also an enthusiastic ukulele player, running and performing in various community bands.
