Lilias Trotter: Daring in the Desert (Trailblazers)

Lilias Trotter: Daring in the Desert (Trailblazers)

by IreneHowat (Author)

Synopsis

'You could become the greatest living painter. Your paintings would be treasured for ever.' Those were the words Lilias Trotter heard from John Ruskin, one of the world's most established art critics. She had to make a choice between her talent and her calling. Both were gifts from God. In May 1879 Lilias knew what she should do. God's work for Lilias was in the desert land of Algeria. Palm trees and camels replaced lampposts and horse drawn carriages. The desert was her home, its people her friends and its Creator her reason for life.

Media Reviews

You sometimes read or hear about people who give up something attractive and lucrative for the sake of pursuing their dream. Most worldly success is gained at some sacrificial cost. But the stories about those who pursue treasure in heaven are the most inspiring to the Christian reader. And for this reason I commend 'Daring in the Desert' by Irene Howat as a most encouraging read for anyone, although its intended audience, as part of the 'Trailblazer' series, is probably young teenagers. Read her story and, as the current saying is, get inspired.
