The first of two volumes introduces Christians to the reflections of Dr. Clyde Kilby, late professor of English at Wheaton College. In the nid-1960's he founded the Marion C. Wade Center, eventually housing the writings of C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, G. K. Chesterton, Dorothy Sayers, Charles Williams, George MacDonald, and Owen Barfield. Not only does Kilby write lovingly and knowingly about the Inklings and related authors (Volume I), but his interaction with their work prompted him to think deeply about Christian aesthetics (Volumen II). Kilby knew Lewis and Tolkien and offers charming anecdotes regarding his friendship with them and the development of the Wade Center.
