Sardili becomes the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma, known as Da Mo in China. He travels throughout India, brings Buddhism to China, and single handedly establishes the Shaolin Temple as the birthplace of Zen and the Martial Arts. A Sudden Dawn is a refreshing take on the mythical origins of Kung Fu with a good pace, enjoyable interpretation of legendary characters, and wonderfully written adventures during the long journey across Asia.

Media Reviews
Superbly crafted. Surges with action, intrigue and touching human relationships. I can't remember the last novel that has taken hold of my mind like this one and has kept me up late turning pages. Although this is a book of historical fiction, it is so grand, so rich, and so memorable, that you want it to be true. -- Loren W. Christensen Inspirational, beautifully written, expertly researched, and highly recommended. I loved it. -- Geoff Thompson, British Academy of Film, TV Arts As good as James Clavell's Shogun, masterfully written, and hard to put down. I cannot recommend Powell's book highly enough. It's freaking brilliant. -- Lawrence A. Kane, author of The Little Black Book of Violence
