Manchester Unlimited: The Money, Egos and Infighting Behind the World's Richest Soccer Club

Manchester Unlimited: The Money, Egos and Infighting Behind the World's Richest Soccer Club

by Mihir Bose (Author)

Synopsis

Manchester United is one of the world's most profitable sporting organizations. The original stock market flotation was intended to raise funds for a new stand. Instead the CEO took the opportunity to turn the club into the meanest marketing operation in European sport, by exploiting to the full the brand name of Manchester United. Recently, it was the subject of a #625 million mega bid by Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB. Today, the stockmarket values Manchester United PLC at one billion, the first time a football club has reached such heights. This book examines the incredible success of the club. Through exclusive interviews with the leading characters, the author reveals how United so transformed itself that it is now virtually in a league of its own, on and off the pitch. The book is as much about the recent transformation of Manchester United into a money-making machine as it is about football in general and the money which has poured into the game in the past five years.

Media Reviews
The Sun An explosive book! The Financial Times Bose does an excellent job in interweaving the clubs's history and its remarkable development as a commercial enterprise. Mirror Edwards is furious that a new book, Manchester Unlimited, has quoted him as calling his manager a troublemaker and useless with money .
