Book Overview: This second edition of Cisco IP Telephony (CIPT) provides readers with all the critical information needed to configure the Cisco CallManager, which is the primary component of a Cisco IPT network, to support an enterprise-scale IPT network. The book also prepares the reader for the CIPT certification exam 642-444, which applies to the CCVP certification. The book makes use of the content and framework of both courses (CIPT1 and CIPT2) in the Cisco IP Telephony curriculum. The book begins with a review of the foundation concepts of IP telephony, then goes on to cover deployment of Cisco IP phones, configuration of the CallManager, configuration of voice VLANs, integration of a voice gateway into the CallManager IPT network, and configuration of an H.323 Gatekeeper. Other concepts covered also include advanced voice route plans, feature configuration, advanced applications like video telephony, and IPT security considerations. This book differs from the first edition by including coverage of the updated version of CallManager (4.1 vs. 3.0/3.1 in previous edition), greater coverage of all the new features and accessories for IPT that did not exist when the first edition published, and more exam-specific elements to help focus learning for exam success. The book differs from the CIPT courses by providing expanded coverage of CDRs, QoS and Unity integration coverage.
