... continues to provide mental health professionals at all levels with an excellent guide through the client assessment and report writing process....The first section assists the user in conducting full mental health evaluations. The questions follow a logical sequence, use appropriate terminology, and allow the user to select items reflective of their personal style. The second section explores the terminology used in writing psychological reports. Again the layout follows a logical sequence, guiding the practitioner from start to finish. Highlights include standard words and phrases, alternatives, and clear examples of how and how not to say things appropriately. The third section entitled, 'Useful Resources, ' introduces two features new to the 5th edition: reproducible forms for writing treatment plans compatible with managed care and an updated list of psychotropic medications. Other new features included reproducible mental status evaluation forms, a combined introduction overview, and an annotated list of suggestions for further reading. The book also has a lay-flat binding for convenience and durability. -- American Reference Books Annual

At Oakland County Community Corrections, we interview and do background investigations on new arrests prior to arraignment and make recommendations about bond and release suitability. Substance abuse history and background information are among the main components of our reports. The Thesaurus has been invaluable in helping us turn what can be very dry subject matter into interesting, readable reports. This book is truly a boon to criminal justice professionals. --Jill Hadley, Lead Investigator, Oakland County Community Corrections, Pontiac, MI
