Synopsis

A breakthrough new workbook shows readers who suffer from depression and manic depression how to identify their personal symptom profile and create a customized self-help intervention program that will help them to get well and stay well. Treatment professionals are now learning the immense benefits of defining a sufferer's particular depression-a process called depression mapping-and then building a treatment programme focused on the individual's personality and life style. Recovery rates for programmes that incorporate the approach are high, and there is a dramatic reduction in recidivism for those who receive such personalized treatment. Psychologist Randy Paterson is a depression mapping programme leader whose programme has proven so successful that it has been taught to 200 agencies all over the world. In his breakthrough new workbook, Paterson helps readers question the specific causes and symptoms of their experience of depression and then shows them how to develop a plan that directly addresses these components. The Depression Map begins with a look at the multiple causes and symptoms of depression that helps readers see through the myths that may hinder healing and gain a new perspective for understanding their own experience. Readers go on to devise their own depression map, a personalized treatment programme that combines the most effective methods available today. Included are guidelines and exercises for analyzing outside help, enhancing lifestyle, deciding about biochemical and physical approaches, controlling thoughts and emotions, and managing stress.
