For those of us who have been intimidated by the complexity involved in New York Beauty, Mariner's Compass and Feathered Star this is a helpful introduction to these blocks. There is a clear explanation of foundation piecing, followed by a discussion on colour placement and the arrangement of the blocks, eg should one present the blocks squarely or on point? All the 13 quilts have foundation patterns to be photocopied and diagrams for every stage in the block assembly. Unusually a chapter is given over to making decorative labels. There are excellent colour photos throughout the book.
