The author is a very skilled embroiderer and wants to take her readers on 'an adventure in colour -blend applique' The examples she shows include birds and butterflies in all their glory, colours glowing, stitching exquisiteand beautifully finished. This is very much a project book with detailed instructions on how to complete twelve blocks, each of which can be interpreted in different ways. The methods are shown in step by step photos and are simple to follow, but a degree of skill and perseverance would be required to achieve the finish illustrated. This book celebrates traditional skills, but brings in a modern slant to an old techniques. Hand stitchers should entranced by the superb examples shown and the way in which colours have been used to such good effect.
