Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

by Fred Saibil (Author)

Synopsis

It has become acceptable to talk about heart disease, ulcers and even cancer, but inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) -- which includes two chronic conditions known as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis -- has remained for too long the secret illness that no one wants to discuss.

Now Dr. Fred Saibil, a renowned expert on IBD, provides concise, up-to-date information on these common conditions.

Dr. Saibil begins by describing the normal gastrointestinal system, and then explains what goes wrong in someone with IBD. He also discusses:

  • Signs and symptoms Procedures and instruments used to diagnose IBD Affects of diet Drugs available and how they work Pros and cons of various surgical options Effects on sexual activity and child-bearing

Dr. Saibil even provides travel tips and other useful self-help strategies for living with IBD, and explains possible complications of the disease, and the special problems of children with IBD.

With its detailed tables, sidebars and diagrams, Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis gives you the straight facts about a disease that effects many thousands of North Americans.
