Souvenir of Canada

Souvenir of Canada

by Douglas Coupland (Author)

Synopsis

Though his bestselling novels are in print in some 30 countries around the world, Coupland's accomplishments as a visual artist are less well-known. This book, which features his evocative still lifes and found objects, speaks to this notable parallel career. Coupland writes about Canada in a way no one else has - with prescient observations, and the uncanny ability to explain a culture by sorting through its detritus. Featuring contemporary design and 50 colour photos, Souvenir of Canada is a smart and darkly whimsical gift book; its complex nostalgia will resonate with anyone who has traveled to, or lived in, Canada.

Media Reviews
This may be the best work ever produced by Canada's greatest artist/writer. Mr. Coupland is the master of the apercu, but his art - in particular, the still lifes he has assembled here for his tribute to the Canada he grew up in - encompasses as much as his words. - Globe and Mail The book is at once reminiscent of Coupland's early work, the author as adroit with a catchy moniker now as he was then, though the book is also something else: The author ... has matured, become tender, even. - National Post
