Synopsis

This innovative series grew out of a desire to provide all children with the opportunity to see themselves within the books they are reading and to identify with the children and families they see. The diversity of today's families is clearly captured. The simple text and engaging photographs explore the relationship between very young children and their environment. Each book is illustrated with realistic and comforting photographs. Children from various familial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds are interacting with their fathers. The simple text and engaging photos invite and encourage discussion between adult and child as they have fun exploring the images together.

Media Reviews
Rich with ethnic diversity... The book is sturdy and small enough for young children to enjoy on their own. Recommended.--Shannon Nesdoly Canadian Materials, Vol. 5, No. 14 (03/12/1999)
While the photographs demonstrate how diverse families can be, the text shows how families are the same.--Shannon Nesdoly Canadian Materials (03/12/1999)
The book is rich with ethnic diversity and portrays a variety of families and family groupings.... The photographs... are bright, clear, and boldly framed in red... The simple text explores togetherness and starts and ends with the theme of love. While the photographs demonstrate how diverse families can be, the text shows how families are the same. Questions are included to encourage discussion between an adult and a toddler, although the book is sturdy and small enough for young children to enjoy on their own as well. Recommended.--Shannon Nesdoly Canadian Materials, Vol. 5, No. 14 (03/12/1999)
