Media Reviews
I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times as I read through this comic collection. As fun as this Big Nate collection is, you might be suprised to learn that this book can teach a thing or two. There is a handy-dandy teacher's guide with activities that align with the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts for grades 3 - 5. There are discussion questions, group activities, and creative writing exercises...I think BIG NATE: GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE would make a fantastic gift for any middle grade reader. Highly recommended...especially for reluctant readers. (Booking Mama)
Big Nate fans, those who enjoy comic anthologies, and reluctant readers will appreciate this collection...Big Nate is a growing hit at my school library and I look forward to putting this book into eager hands. (Good Reads with Ronna)
Big Nate hooks upper elementary and middle readers with humor and easy-to-read text. The characters are extremely relatable and Nate's antics are always entertaining...his constant hopeful outlook makes him truly likeable. Big Nate introduces readers to a bunch of new vocabulary words and presents educators with many opportunities for teaching reading and creative writing within the Common Core Standards. The illustrations are crisp, clear and colorful and the text is big and bold and easy to read...Big Nate: Great Minds Think Alike is entertaining enough to attract reluctant readers and inspire them to broaden their reading horizons beyond comics. Any book that encourages the love of reading is an awesome book. To round out the reading experience, there's a slick pull out poster in the back of the book. Be sure to check out the Teacher's Guide for this book. (Debbie Glade, Smart Books for Smart Kids)
In addition to the graphic storytelling, Nate's cartoons interspersed among Peirce's panels could provide teachers and librarians with great opportunities to incorporate this series into programs or lessons on cartooning and writing. (Snow Wildsmith, Booklist)
...if you're looking for a new series to introduce your kids to this upcoming holiday season, chances are they'll really like these collections. (Rich Johnston, Bleeding Cool)
