Amy and Matthew: A Love Story

by Cammie Mc Govern (Author)

Synopsis

Published in the US as Say What You Will. Amy is unflinchingly honest about her limitations. Born with cerebral palsy, she can't walk or talk without help. But trapped inside this uncooperative body lies a brilliant mind and a luminous spirit - a girl capable of truly loving and worthy of being loved in return. Matthew has his own set of challenges - a mind consumed by unwanted repeated thoughts, obsessive rituals and a crippling fear that he can't explain. But underneath all of the anxiety lies a deep seed of hope for someone to come along who believes in him...This is the story of Amy and Matthew. It may not be a fairy tale romance or set in an imagined world far from our own. But the love they share is real. And yes, there's magic in it.

Media Reviews
A warm, magnificent and delicate love story that will break your heart and stitch it back together again. -- Casey www.dark-readers.com You know a novel is truly flawless when you feel as if it's natural; the words flow into one and you are witnessing the events through the characters' eyes without fault. That's how I felt when reading Amy & Matthew... Simply, you should go out and buy Amy & Matthew straight away. It challenges preconceived notions and will blow you away. -- Lucy Powrie queenofcontemporary.com This is Cammie McGovern's first YA novel but Amy and Matthew will shoot her straight to the top ranks of first-class teen writers. Definitely one to watch. -- Charlotte Eyre welovethisbook.com Deeply romantic, this is a moving love story that will leave readers thinking afresh about being different. -- Julia Eccleshare lovereading4kids.co.uk If you enjoyed Eleanor and Park, The Fault in Our Stars and The Perks of Being a Wallflower then I couldn't recommend this book to you more. It certainly deserves the same recognition which is not something I say lightly with the books mentioned above being a few of my favourites. -- Jess jessheartsbooks.blogspot.co.uk This is Cammie McGovern's first YA novel but Amy and Matthew will shoot her straight to the top ranks of first-class teen writers. Definitely one to watch. -- Charlotte Eyre welovethisbook.com If you enjoyed Eleanor and Park, The Fault in Our Stars and The Perks of Being a Wallflower then I couldn't recommend this book to you more. It certainly deserves the same recognition which is not something I say lightly with the books mentioned above being a few of my favourites. Amy and Matthew are certain to open reader's eyes to the world of both physical and mental illness and work their way into reader's hearts with their beautifully broken love story. jessheartsbooks.blogspot.co.uk An engaging and honest story of troubled young people and first love. -- Marilyn Brocklehurst The Bookseller This book felt really real. It brought out emotions I never thought I could feel. That little pain in your chest when something is just so emotional literally happened every other page. It's just an all around epic love story not about the generic hot guy and non popular girl in school, this is so much better. A warm, magnificent and delicate love story that will break your heart and stitch it back together again. dark-readers.com One of the first things I liked about this book was the cover, as a result out of all the books I've been sent recently to look at I thought I'd read this one first... I also felt that Amy's cerebral palsy was dealt with magnificently and I really felt like I have more of an insight into people who have it, something which I think is very important to teach. I think it's very important to encourage young adults to read books which tackle unusual relationships and teach you that although everyone is different, ultimately people are all the same. That it's not necessarily those people who you think have the biggest problems in life are the ones that do... I'd suggest that this is a perfect read for young adults and anyone above that age who enjoys a bit of teen romance. It's opened my eyes to a whole new genre of books. Thank you Cammie McGovern. beingamummy.co.uk Amy and Matthew by Cammie McGovern was a really beautiful love story and it has quickly become one of my favourite books that I've read so far this year. flutteringbutterflies.com Oh my god this book. Ahhh this book was beautiful... A very moving, emotional and poignant story. uncorkedthoughts.blogspot.co.uk I hope it's clear how much I loved this book! It's difficult to write in a review, as you really do have to 'meet' Amy and Matthew through reading. I cannot thank McGovern enough for getting me back into this genre and reminding me of everything I love about contemporary YA. Amy and Matthew is definitely one of the top YA books out there at the moment. Move over, The Fault In Our Stars and make way for Amy and Matthew! steppingoutofthepage.co.uk Reminiscent of The Fault in Our Stars and Eleanor and Park - which many people have already compared this to - this is a highly enjoyable book which you're almost certain to love if you liked those. Wonderfully written and moving, it is one of those books that - if I had time - I would re-read again and again. themilelongbookshelf.com Cammie McGovern pushed a strong message home with Amy and Matthew about inner strength, making your own choices and path in life, not judging someone by one factor of their personality or physicality and the almost life-saving abilities of friends. It's an incredibly powerful idea that will stay with me for a long while. Amy and Matthew has a cast of characters, ideas and themes that are commanding of your attention and thoughts. It's a powerful novel that will captivate many, many readers. solittletimeforbooks.blogspot.co.uk You know a novel is truly flawless when you feel as if it's natural; the words flow into one and you are witnessing the events through the characters' eyes without fault.
