Railways of Wales in the 1960s

by JohnEvans (Author), John Evans (Author), John Evans (Author)

Synopsis

In the mid-1960s, the railways in North Wales were undergoing huge change. As fast as steam was being displaced from the main lines, the narrow gauge railways were starting to show their potential as a major facet of the country's tourism industry. There with his camera loaded with colour film was John Evans, who witnessed the change and photographed all the fledgling narrow gauge lines, plus both the Cambrian and North Wales main lines in the last days of steam.

Author Bio
Having a father who ran a shop selling model railways probably sealed the fate of John Evans as a railway enthusiast. Spending all his money - and rather too much of his time - amassing a collection of railway pictures, he fortunately stored them carefully away. 'My education was undertaken at Northampton engine shed,' he jokes. He now lives in West Yorkshire and still ventures regularly to the lineside.
